an AI-assisted care platform and printable-activity engine
What if care teams could create personalised activities for older adults from one platform?
A production Next.js platform for older-adult care: personalised printable activities (CarePrints), family engagement tools, e-books and memoir workflows, subscriptions and admin operations. Over fourteen months I worked mostly on the activity engine — the generators, editors and export pipelines behind the product’s core.
RoleFull-stack developer / software engineer
My partTeam of four engineers · ~300 of my commits since July 2025
Built activity generators for the printable-activity engine — rectangular, circular (with inner holes and a centre start) and triangular mazes, riddles with smart font sizing, word grids, picture memory cards, nostalgic photo cards, memory-lane trivia and Words of Comfort — each with customisation sidebars, SVG preview and PDF/PNG export.
Built the Stories2Connect canvas editor with dual-version export and answer toggles, and the backend PDF generation pipeline used across activity types.
Prototyped the AI e-book generator with user/AI segment control, and shipped AI-assisted generation with OpenAI and Google Gemini for activities, images and structured content.
Extended Family Circles with member-specific prompts, quick actions and admin views of member answers; added bulk CarePrint assignment by tag and the admin navigation for the CarePrints and Care Pals super-sections.
Worked across the platform’s integrations — NextAuth.js role-based access, Stripe subscriptions, Resend/React Email campaigns, Twilio phone verification, S3-compatible storage — and fixed production incidents in download quotas, export pipelines, email broadcast analytics and deployment.
Helped split the codebase into CarePrints and LiveAndStay, repointing shared word-grid code to published packages behind strangler facades, and added Prettier/Husky gates and CI memory fixes.

Architecture
Next.js App Router with TypeScript across public pages, user dashboards, CarePrints collections, personalised activities, admin dashboards and API routes.
MongoDB with Mongoose for users, subscriptions, activities, family circles and content.
NextAuth.js for authentication and role-based access to user, admin and subscription workflows.
Stripe subscriptions, Resend + React Email campaigns with broadcast analytics, Twilio phone verification, S3-compatible storage for generated assets, Vercel for deployment.
OpenAI and Google Gemini for activity, image, e-book and structured-content generation.
The activity engine
Every printable activity is a small program: typed parameters, a generator that produces content, an SVG renderer for the live preview, and an export path to PDF and PNG. The mazes are a good example — rectangular, circular and triangular variants share one grid abstraction but need their own carving and rendering logic (a circular maze with a hole in the middle has a different notion of “neighbour” than a rectangle). Riddles size their type to fit the page. Stories2Connect adds a canvas editor on top so a carer can adjust a story before it prints.
In 2026 the engine was extracted into published packages (@teamanaya/activity-core, activity-renderers) so CarePrints, LiveAndStay and Anaya Care could share it. My part was repointing the word-grid code behind strangler facades so the split shipped without a flag day.
